Zinc & Copper

Zinc & Copper is one of the few distinctly contemporary brass chamber music ensembles in the world. Their trademark sound fuses mood, modes, frequency, timbre and microtonality into a single harmonious whole.

This unmistakable ensemble sound is characterised by the warmth of low brass, a fine harmonic richness of colour and extended playing techniques.

The trio was founded in 2005 by Robin Hayward and since 2014 consists of Hayward, Elena Kakaliagou and Hilary Jeffery.  Their unique music is the result of many years of practical research into brass chamber music,  just intonation and microtonality as a trio – and in collaboration with many composers, musicians and artists – such as: Ellen Arkbro, Leonor Antunes,  Andrea Belfi, Hayden Chisholm, Amir ElSaffar, Marisol Jiménez, Simon Martin, Phill Niblock, Duane Pitre, Eleni Poulou,  Éliane Radigue, Jules Reidy,  Jan-Peter E.R. Sonntag, Kasper T. Toeplitz, Felipe Vaz, Juan Felipe Waller and Christian Wolff.

Zinc & Copper show that contemporary music can be  accessible and enjoyable, without losing integrity.  With their unique ensemble sound, they succeed in making contemporary music accessible to a wide audience.
